Warning road signs (A)

Get to know every warning sign that can appear on the Polish driving licence exam. Each entry includes the original Ministry description together with an English explanation, so you can memorise the meaning and react properly on the road.

A-1	Dangerous right turn	Warns of a dangerous curve in the direction indicated on the sign.
A-2	Dangerous left turn	Warns of a dangerous curve in the direction indicated on the sign.
A-3	Dangerous curves – first to the right	It warns of dangerous curves, the first of which is in the direction indicated on the sign. The plate T-4 placed under the sign indicates a number of curves greater than two, while the T-5 plate indicates the beginning of a winding road.
A-4	Dangerous bends – first one to the left	It warns of dangerous bends, the first of which is in the direction indicated on the sign. The plate T-4 placed under the sign indicates a number of bends greater than two, whereas the T-5 plate indicates the beginning of a winding road.
A-5	Road intersection	Warns of a road intersection where priority is not determined by signs (equal-priority intersection). At the given intersection, we apply the "right-hand rule" - Knowledge Base - Equal-Priority Road Intersection
A-6a	Intersection with a subordinate road occurring on both sides	Warns of an intersection with a subordinate road occurring on the side indicated on the sign. A plate T-6b placed under the sign indicates the arrangement of roads at the intersection.
A-6b	Intersection with a subordinate road on the right side	Warns of an intersection with a subordinate road occurring on the side indicated on the sign. The plate T-6b placed under the sign indicates the arrangement of roads at the intersection.
A-6c	Intersection with a subordinate road appearing on the left side	Warns of an intersection with a subordinate road occurring on the side indicated on the sign. The plate T-6b placed under the sign indicates the arrangement of roads at the intersection.
A-6d	Entry to one-way street from the right side	Warns of an intersection with a one-way subordinate road, whose entrance is on the side indicated on the sign.
A-6e	One-way street entrance from the left side	Warns of an intersection with a one-way subordinate road, whose entrance is on the side indicated on the sign.
A-7	Yield	Warns of an intersection with a priority road. The yield sign located within the intersection applies only to the nearest roadway in front of which it has been placed. A plate T-6c or T-6d placed under the sign indicates the actual course of the priority road through the intersection.
A-8	Roundabout intersection	It warns of an intersection where traffic flows around an island or square in the direction indicated on the sign.
A-9	Railway crossing with barriers	Warns of a railway crossing equipped with gates or half-gates. The plate T-7 placed under the sign indicates the arrangement of tracks and road at the crossing.
A-10	Railway crossing without barriers	Warns of a railway crossing not equipped with either barriers or half-barriers. A plate T-7 placed under the sign indicates the arrangement of rails and road at the crossing.
A-11	Uneven Road	Warns of transverse road surface irregularities.
A-11a	speed bump	Warns of a convex surface on the road applied to slow down vehicle traffic.
A-12a	Roadway narrowing - two-sided	Warns of road narrowing on the side indicated on the sign, which may cause traffic difficulties.
A-12b	Road narrows - right side	Warns of a narrowing of the carriageway on the side indicated by the sign, which may cause traffic disruptions.
A-12c	Roadway narrowing - left side	Warns of road narrowing on the side indicated on the sign, which may cause traffic difficulties.
A-13	Movable bridge	Warns of entering a drawbridge or swing bridge.
A-14	Road works	Warns of roadworks in progress on the road. The plaque placed under the sign, T-19, indicates painting of horizontal road markings.
A-15	Slippery road	Warns of the possibility of vehicle skidding caused in particular by a change in the road surface, its constant or periodic dampening.
A-16	Pedestrian crossing	Warns of a pedestrian crossing.[1][7]
A-17	Children	Warns of a place on the road that is particularly frequented by children or of the proximity of such a place.
A-18a	Farm animals	Warns of the possibility of encountering animals on the road.
A-18b	Wild animals	Warns of the possibility of encountering animals on the road.
A-19	Crosswind	Warns of a location where strong crosswinds may occur.
A-20	Section of the carriageway with two-way traffic	Warns drivers traveling on a one-way road of the place where two-way traffic begins.
A-21	Tram	Warns of a tram crossing. A plate placed below the sign T-7 indicates the layout of the tracks and road at this crossing.
A-22	Dangerous descent	Warns of a significant longitudinal road gradient (downhill slope). A plate placed beneath the T-9 sign indicates the actual amount of the gradient.
A-23	Steep driveway	Warns of a significant road incline. The plaque T-9 placed under the sign indicates the actual incline gradient.
A-24	Cyclists	Warns of a place where cyclists enter or cross the roadway.
A-25	Falling rock fragments	Warns about the possibility of rock fragments falling onto the road or lying on it.
A-26	Airport	Warns of the possibility of a suddenly appearing low-flying aircraft or helicopter.
A-27	Riverbank or river bank	Warns of a road section leading directly to a waterfront or along the bank of a river or other water body.
A-28	Loose chippings	Warns of a road section covered with gravel (grys), which may be thrown up from under the wheels of passing vehicles.
A-29	Light signals	Warns of a place where traffic is controlled by traffic lights.
A-30	Other danger	Warns of a danger of a different kind than that specified by other warning signs. The plate placed under the sign indicates the type of danger using a symbol or inscription. The plate placed under the sign indicates: T-8 - a place where vehicle traffic has been directed onto tram tracks; T-10 - intersection of a road with a railway siding or a track of similar nature; at such a marked place, traffic on the road is stopped by a railway employee during the passage (shunting) of a train; T-11 - ferry crossing; T-12 - longitudinal surface drop; T-13 - road section where surface deformations in the form of ruts occur; T-14 - place of frequent accidents of the nature indicated on the plate; T-15 - place of frequent accidents caused by slippery road surface due to rainfall; T-16 - place of exit of privileged vehicles indicated on the plate; T-17 - state border; T-18 - unexpected change in the direction of traffic as indicated on the plate.
A-31	Dangerous shoulder	Warns of a dangerous shoulder (soft or sunken). A sign with this symbol warns of a dangerous shoulder occurring on the right side of the road.
A-31a	Dangerous shoulder on the left side	Warns of a dangerous shoulder (soft or lowered). The sign with this symbol warns of a dangerous shoulder occurring on the left side of the road.
A-32	Ice or hoarfrost on the road	Warns of possible frost or black ice that may occur on the road surface.
A-33	Traffic jam	Warns of frequent traffic congestion.
A-34	Road accident	Warns of a place where, due to a road accident, the road has been blocked or vehicle traffic has been significantly impeded.
